INTRODUCTION:
Since all my software was completely different than software they were using in school I used the lynda tutorials for learning the animating process in cinema4d.
Our animation should include:
- figures of maximum size 90/90/270 units
- chess board with fields of size 100/100 units, the whole playing area was 800/800 units
- animation should less for 30'' and should have 30 FPS
- we had to use the animated lights
- moving figures
- moving cameras
- different deformation of figures
- change of color
- all the clips should be edited with applied sound effects
PROCESS:
I started modeling figures in rhinoceros. It would be possible to do it also in cinema4d, but since I prefer the accurate geometric nurbs modeling I used rhinoceros.
WORK IN RHINOCEROS:
- modeling all the figures, chess board and table
- modeling all the figures, chess board and table
modeling the pawn in rhinoceros
the knight
the rook
the bishop
for the creation I used REVOLVE command and CAP PLANAR HOLES to fill the part in the bottom
the first figures I didn't like
I made new ones :)
searching for the perfect path curve to to use SWEEP command
searching...
I made few versions of king and queen with different cross_curves in SWEEP 2 function
and I used BOOLEAN DIFFERENCE to cut out different shapes of king and queen
enormous circular table and chess board
the chess board made with commands EXTRUDE, make surface / FROM PLANAR CURVE, RAIL REVOLVE
I exported the figures and chess board from rhinoceros using wavefont *.obj files
WORK IN CINEMA4D:
- first I will do the animation
- second I will set the lights
- third I will set the cameras
- fourth I set the frames for different clips with different cameras
- finally I will make animation previews and saved them as *.mov files, I will use the codec H.264 and resolution 640/480
in cinema4d i opened the *.obj files and merged them into one
I copied, distributed and applied the materials on the figures and on the chess boars in cinema4d.. not in rhinoceros
opened knight figure in cinema4d
knight figure copied to the chessboard file, materials applied and distributed to its postion
all figures in their places
for animating it is easier to use the animation layout
so I changed it
I moved the figures and keyframed every move
For pawn I used the bend effect
for the second pawn I used the SHEAR effect
the second deformation for both pawns was BEND
for the queen I used the SCALE finction in only one dimension
all the figures are moved along the spline
I made the 3 point light for the best effect
the first preview which you can see on my previous blog post
I was using target cameras, so whether I was moving the camera along spline, I attached the target to the figure or both
Some camera effects I achieved by changing the FOCAL LENGHT just like with she normal cameras we use everyday
EDITING THE CLIPS IN iMOVIE:
I imported ll the clips and added the intro clip and ending clip
I recorded and edited the sounds with the tools in iMovie
I exported the movie in *.mov file using the codec H.264

Dobr si naredu. Glasba v ozadju bi bila lahko malo glasnejša glede na zvočne efekte. Ostalo je pa super!
